Introduction

Dongguan Key Laboratory for Data Science and Intelligent Medicine was established in July 2023 upon approval. Situated at GBU and jointly established with Shenzhen University and Dongguan People’s Hospital, the Laboratory focuses on research in early warning, diagnosis, and intervention of diseases based on medical imaging and related multi-omics data.




The Laboratory’s main research direction involves interdisciplinary studies between data science and life health, including but not limited to techniques such as data acquisition and processing, model building, algorithm optimization, system development, and data privacy security protection design. These techniques are applied across multiple fields like disease monitoring, medical imaging, medical devices, medical diagnostics, biomedical engineering, drug discovery, and development of new therapeutic treatments. The goal is to address key common technical and theoretical foundation issues in these fields and to promote groundbreaking innovation research. The Laboratory plans to set up a high-level research team that integrates multiple disciplines for collaborative and innovative research. By bringing together relevant disciplines, we aim to build a first-class facility and conduct research in areas such as mathematical theories of stochastic biomedical systems, medical big data mining, medical image diagnostics, bioinformatics, and biomedical engineering. This initiative seeks to enhance Dongguan’s pioneering exploration and disruptive innovation in the intersection of data science and life health. To that end, we intend to address the following three key tasks:


(I) Theoretical basis: Research on mathematical theories and biophysical mechanisms for intelligent medicine

Mathematical foundations for interpretability of deep learning

Stochastic dynamical mechanisms of biomedical systems


(II) Algorithm research: Research on algorithms for multi-scale, multi-modal, complex high-dimensional medical data

Deep learning algorithms based on stochastic dynamical systems

Research on machine learning algorithms for privacy protection


(III) Application research platform: Establishment of an intelligent medical assistance platform with privacy protection

Intelligent analysis and diagnostic methods for medical data

Development of computing platforms and software for medical imaging data
